Tryouts, Team Selection and Transfers
16U and Younger Tryouts cannot take place until the day of the Grad-All Star match, 17U and 18U Tryouts cannot take place until the day after the Grad All-Star match. For the 2022-23 Club Season the Grad All-Star Event will be taking place on December 10th, so Clubs may begin to host 16U and Younger tryouts on December 10th, and 17U and 18U tryouts on December 11th.
Clubs/Teams can make offers to athletes at tryouts, but must allow until Monday, December 12th at 8pm for athletes to consider offers. Clubs are not allowed to require an immediate answer. Clubs/Teams must honour all offers made at least until the 12th at 8pm, after which they can move on if they have not received a commitment from the athlete. If an athlete wishes to commit immediately following an offer, they may do so.
Teams can then begin to sign athletes on December 12th after 8pm. We strongly encourage Clubs/Teams to allow athletes to attend tryouts for multiple Clubs/Teams (if they wish) and not pressure them to commit immediately following a tryout. VM Individual Registration Forms (available Dec 12th) can be completed and teams/players can be registered in the VRS on December 16th.
If a Club/Team extends an offer to an athlete any time after the initial tryout weekend, they must allow that athlete 24 hours to consider the offer, and must honour the offer for the duration of that 24 hour period.
See “Seasons of Play, Scouting and Recruiting Regulations” document for specific rules concerning allowed and disallowed Direct and Indirect Communication with athletes. In particular, it is noted that:
Athletes are all free agents at the end of the Club Season and free to return to their prior year’s club or select an alternative club, as opportunity exists.
Athletes are free to try out for multiple teams and are NOT obligated to commit or sign Individual Registration forms until Monday, December 12th.
A player is only committed once they have registered with a team (by signing a VM Individual Registration Form), on or after the applicable signing date.
Once an athlete has signed with a Club, they are considered committed to that club for the season.
